CURTIS STONE’S MICHELIN-STARRED TASTING MENU RESTAURANT MAUDE IS CLOSING IN BEVERLY HILLS

Curtis Stone’s pioneering tasting menu restaurant Maude, which has a Michelin star, will close on September 28 to make way for the Pie Room by Curtis Stone, a casual bakery and takeout spot that occupied the same Beverly Hills space during the pandemic. Stone first opened Maude in 2014 as an attempt to establish his presence in Los Angeles. Trained in fine dining kitchens in the U.K., Stone had been a fixture on Food Network and started his career as the Take Home Chef in the mid-aughts.

For years at Maude, Stone curated a tasting menu each month based on a single seasonal ingredient. Over time, it became one of Los Angeles’s most acclaimed restaurants and gained its first Michelin star in 2019. Ahead of its imminent closure, Maude still retains its star.

In March 2020, Maude temporarily closed due to pandemic restrictions and reopened a year later as the Pie Room by Gwen. At the time, the opening of the Pie Room was described as a “pivot” for Stone; the more casual restaurant offered Australian-style savory pies, plus sandwiches, pastries, and more. In 2021, Stone reopened Maude and shuttered the temporary Pie Room concept. In recent years, Maude has shifted its one-ingredient tasting menu approach to showcase the bounty of Southern California cuisine, using ingredients from across the state.

In a statement to Eater regarding the closure, Stone said the time has come to “make space for new endeavors.” He confirmed that there are no plans to reopen Maude.
