A REASONABLY-PRICED MEDITERRANEAN RESTAURANT EXPANDS TO THE SOUTH BAY

On April 15, Glendora Public Market’s Limone opened a second location in Torrance. Co-founder and chef Luis Gonzalez, who spent years mostly navigating through hotel restaurants like the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Sunset Marquis, opened his restaurant in mid-2022, quickly securing enough of a loyal base to start plotting an expansion to the South Bay’s Enclave food hall.

At Limone, everything is made on-site, and there’s a California Mediterranean flair on display with the dishes. Think marinated chicken served over za’atar fries and warm laffa flatbread, Greek or chopped salad with salmon or harissa steak, and chicken shawarma wraps. Opt for Gonzalez’s massive mezze board with traditional hummus, baba ghanoush, or tzatziki. Lunch is usually well under $20 a person. There’s plenty of outdoor seating with the bonus of other vendors, including Nook Coffee and HiroNori Craft Ramen.

To tip, or not to tip

LAist editor Gab Chabran makes his case over tipping while dining out. For years, the topic has been a contentious debate on whether 20 percent is standard for a takeout or a sit-down meal.

California’s fast-food price hikes

On April 1, the minimum wage for fast-food workers in California rose to $20 under Assembly Bill 1228, a law designed to offer increased protections and wages for workers in the fast-food industry. NBC-4 reports how much of an impact that’s having on customers who dine at these establishments. Customers are paying up to 8 percent more at Wendy’s and 7.5 percent more at Chipotle. Note that this law is only for fast-food chain restaurants with at least 60 locations nationwide.

Budonoki review

Los Angeles Times restaurant reviewer Bill Addison is smitten with Budonoki. He spends ample time detailing the space, the playlist, the lighting, and especially the food from the Virgil Village izakaya.

Wine night at Xuntos

Starting Wednesday, April 24, is a new series called Wine Explorers Night at Xuntos. To kick things off, the Santa Monica restaurant will bring out its sommelier, Scott Baker, to chat about and serve three Spanish orange wines paired with pintxos, also known as Spanish snacks. The cost is $45 per person and starts at 6:30 p.m. Secure a reservation here.
