How To Make Russian Dressing

INGREDIENTS

  • Mayonnaise: As the base of this dressing, mayonnaise provides the ultimate smooth, fatty flavor that carries the tanginess from the ketchup and relish.
  • Ketchup-Style Chili Sauce or Ketchup: We love ketchup-style chili sauce because it gives this dressing even more of a bite with its added acidity. If you prefer, you can always just use regular ketchup!
  • Sweet Relish: Sweet relish brings both the pickle and the sweetness to this dressing that makes it feel balanced and delicious.
  • Horseradish (optional): We love the sharpness of horseradish and how it plays with the sweet relish and ketchup in this dressing, but if you’re not a fan, you can certainly leave this out!
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Worcestershire plays a couple of roles in this dressing, bringing both the umami flavor and an extra layer of salt that mellows out the acidity of the other ingredients.
  • Garlic Powder: Garlic powder gives this sauce even more flavor and punch to really help you level it up!

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

This dressing could not be easier to make. Simple mix all of the ingredients together in a medium bowl (so you have room to whisk) and then season with salt and pepper.

Make sure you scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl so that all of the ingredients get incorporated!

How To Use Russian Dressing

When you think of Russian dressing, your mind probably goes to the Reuben sandwich first. We like to think beyond the sandwich and add this dressing to all of our favorite Reuben-inspired recipes, like our Reuben nachos, Reuben squares, Reuben bowls, Reuben casserole, Reuben pickle bites, and Reuben-stuffed chicken.

That being said, your options don’t stop with the Reuben! Smear this on a burger, drizzle it over some fish tacos, or use it to glaze some grilled chicken. The options are truly endless with this versatile sauce.
