Classic margaritas are a staple summer cocktail, and I've had my fair share of fun experimenting with endless variations. From fruity varieties like peach and pineapple to spicy jalapeño, Delish has a margarita recipe for any (and every) taste and occasion. But, when I'm craving an icy, oh-so-refreshing twist on the classic, I turn to these classic frozen margaritas. No need for fancy mixes here—all you need are 5 ingredients (+ ice) and a blender to make this delicious, frozen variety. Here's my top tips for making these margs:

How To Make Frozen Margaritas

INGREDIENTS

  • Silver Tequila: If you prefer to keep it classic, use silver tequila in this recipe; feel free to use your fave brand, or check out the list of the best tequilas Delish tasted. More of a mezcal fan? Turn a mezcal margarita into this blended variety for a smoky blended bev.
  • Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice, please! There are very few ingredients in a margarita, so you want every component to be as fresh as possible.
  • Triple Sec: I prefer to use classic triple sec, but if you have a preferred Cointreau you’d like to use, feel free to swap it out! If you’re looking for something less sweet, swap it out for OJ, à la our skinny margaritas.
  • Simple Syrup: Simple syrup adds that necessary sweetness that a frozen margarita calls for. If you don’t want to use simple syrup, agave would also be a great choice.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

First, we’ll create our salt rims by rubbing lime juice on the rims of each of our glasses, then dipping them on a tray with salt. Once every rim is coated, set them aside.

Add the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup to a blender, then top with ice. Blend until you get a slushy consistency. If you prefer your frozen margs even icier, feel free to add more ice.

Once you’ve reached your desired slushy consistency, pour into your prepared glasses and garnish with lime rounds.

Recipe Tips

  • The ratio for frozen margaritas. The ratio is easy to remember: 1 part simple syrup: 2 parts triple sec: 4 parts tequila: 4 parts lime juice. Cover with twice the amount of ice, and you're ready to get blending.
  • The rim. I love a salt rim, but you could also spike it with a bit of chili powder, or use Tajín for some spice. Not feeling like it? Feel free to leave it off.

Frozen Margarita Variations

I went with the classic lime here, but if you prefer some fruity flavor in your frozen marg, go for it! Swap out the ice for frozen fruit like in this frozen strawberry margarita or frozen watermelon margaritas, or get creative with frozen blue moscato margaritas. This is your marg—make it how you love it.
