COFFEE MATE’S “FREAKY” TONGUE COMMERCIAL IS SENDING TWITTER INTO A SPIRAL

If you're tuned in for the Super Bowl (read: glancing up from your buffalo chicken dip when the commercials start), you likely caught Coffee Mate's 30-second ad spot—and are now traumatized/confused/questioning everything along with us.

The creamer brand decided to go big or go home for its first-ever Super Bowl commercial with a Shania Twain voiceover...and lots of tongue? The man featured in the spot takes a sip of Coffee Mate's new cold foam, licks his upper lip, and then launches into what can only be described as a tongue performance, singing "Give me cold foam!" with Twain on vocals.

Fans practically sprinted to X with their thoughts. "That Coffee Mate commercial has to be the weirdest commercial so far. No, thank you," one user wrote on the platform. "I’ll officially be pressing charges against Coffee Mate," another chimed in. "This freaky a** Coffee Mate commercial HELLO?" a third person commented.

"Am I entitled to compensation after seeing that Coffee Mate tongue ad?" another asked. (We had the same thought)(Can we get some legal advice on this?)

Others questioned how the advertising team even checked off the idea in the first place: "Okay, who told Coffee Mate it was a good idea to make a commercial featuring a tongue?" and "That Coffee Mate commercial should never be aired again," more said.

Shania Twain herself attempted to explain the ad in a statement for the brand. "(The song) is all about embracing your inner pop star and the energy that comes along with taking that first sip of something spectacular," she said in the release. "As someone who is coffee-obsessed—(Coffee mate) has gotten me through plenty of late-night tour stops over the years."

While maybe not everyone loved the visual, if Coffee Mate was going for memorable, it succeeded. We'll never get that image out of our heads—as much as we try. Not to mention, we're sorta intrigued by the cold foam drop, too. The line, which includes Italian Sweet Crème, Nestlé Toll House Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie, and French Vanilla flavors, hit store shelves last month.
