Summer is a great time for restaurant launches. Here is a running list updated throughout the month with the newest places opening this July.
The Viet-Cajun-style barbecue joint opened on July 22. Formerly a pop-up run by Avery Cottrell, known for its zesty riffs on barbecue and sides of beef tallow refried beans, has now taken over the former Salaryman space, next to Poor Hendrix at Hosea and 2nd. Expect meats by the pound here, along with boudin egg rolls, chili brined chicken skewers, crab claws, and smoked mushroom tacos. The wine list has stellar options including Pere Mata cava, Johan Vineyards pinot gris orange wine, and Chateau Yvonne chenin blanc — all excellent pairings with the food. The $3 Mountain Dew shots are also available.
Restauranteurs Delana and Jason Reeves have opened their third location of Delilah’s Everyday Soul at Politan Row in Midtown on July 17. The menu has staple southern favorites like their signature bone-in fried chicken, fried seafood sandwiches, sides, and a new menu addition: smash burgers.
Delilah is named after Delana’s mother, whose recipes have earned a nod from Oprah Winfrey for the “Nation’s Best Mac n’ Cheese.” Delilah’s opened its second location at Ashford Lane’s Politan Row in February. Delilah’s Everyday Soul is now open everyday for lunch and dinner.
Dog-lovers rejoice. Alpharetta is now home to a new luxury dog park, restaurant and bar, Off Leash, with plenty of treats for both humans and pets. It opened on July 15 at the corner of S. Main Street and Old Milton Parkway. The indoor and outdoor space features a dog-friendly patio and an indoor restaurant (for humans only), which includes a bar. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, expect to find people food like burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, tacos, salads, and breakfast burritos and biscuits.
The owners of boutique bottle shops Elemental Spirits Co. and The Zero Co. (Atlanta’s first nonalcoholic bottle shop) opened their newest wine shop Side Track Wine Co. on July 12 with a weekend of bubbles. Expect to find the same level of wine curation as Elemental. The team is known for offering organic and sustainable wine producers from around the world.
Atlanta is on a streak of welcoming new Mexican restaurants. El Gordo (from the same team behind Birria El Gordo in Marieta) is the newest specialty taco and cocktail joint to join the pack in Buckhead, opening its doors on July 10. Chef Jose Toledo is behind the menu which features ample birria-style tacos like the pork belly chicharrón, tostadas, and fideo, a Mexican noodle soup.
Cascade Heights has a new cafe and wine bar, Cafe Bartique as of July 9, according to Rough Draft. Expect to find plenty of coffee drinks (with regular coffee 10 percent off right now), tea, juice, lemonade, wine, and baked goods, like the Money Matcha cupcake, every day of the week. Also expect live music on the first Fridays of the month.
The popular New York-style bagel shop in East Atlanta Village, Emerald City Bagels by mom and daughter duo Deanna and Jackie Halcrow, now has a second location on the BeltLine. It opened on July 8, next to the Edgewood Avenue Bridge. Expect to find the same favorites of bagels with everything topping, sesame, and even sea salt and olive oil, and rosemary sea salt flavors. Bagel sandwiches and coffee are also available.
The owners of popular Buford Highway mainstay for all things dumplings, Northern China Eatery, have opened a new restaurant called Dumpling Factory at Westside Paper in West Midtown (at the former Boxcar Betty’s space) on July 5. Expect to find favorites from the Northern China Eatery menu at this new spinoff location, with a robot delivering plates to your table.
